Kids mobile plans.

Things to consider when choosing kids phone plans.
Before you go phone-case shopping, here are a few factors to think about when it comes to picking a phone plan for your kids.
What are your child's needs?
From online learning, to online games, our phones have so many wonderful features for children. Understanding what your child actually needs from their mobile can help you choose a suitable phone plan. The best mobile plans for kids are ones that will suit your child’s lifestyle. Ask yourself, what will they be using it for and how often? Will they be a light or heavy data user?
For example, if they will only be using their phone to make emergency calls and texts, then your kids’ mobile phone plan may not need an extensive amount of data. This may be a suitable option for families with young children who travel to school on public transport. On the flip side, if your child (with your permission) will be using their phone to access social media, you may decide that a plan with unlimited data is the way to go.
Prepaid or postpaid?
Both prepaid and postpaid plans have their advantages. Postpaid plans provide you with peace of mind as your child will always be able to get in touch with you, even if they have reached their data limit.
With a prepaid plan, you can avoid bill shock as your child can only use the credit that you have paid for in advance. Once they have reached their credit limit, that’s it until your next pay period. This is a good way to teach your kids about budgeting (or get them off their phones!).
What kind of phone will they have?
If you already have a handset ready to give your child and are just looking for a kids mobile phone plan, check out our SIM Only and Prepaid plans. If you need to purchase a mobile phone for your child, you can do so online via woolworths.com or Big W. You may also want to consider purchasing a dumbphone if you prefer a device strictly restricted to calls and texts to avoid internet distractions. View our blog about What's a dumbphone for more information.
What should I know about cyber safety for kids?
Many parents are wary of giving their kids mobile phones due to them accessing the internet without supervision. The internet can be a great tool for education and entertainment, however there are also risks involved. You can keep your kids safe online by first having an open conversation about their usage. Establishing rules around what they allowed to browse online and for how long can help them build good online safety awareness and habits.
There are also a range of parental controls available to limit what your child sees and does on the internet. The Australian Government is protecting young Australians at a critical stage of their development, through world-first social media age restrictions in effect from 10 December 2025. Find information via the Social media age restrictions hub to help you understand for the change. If you want to read more about online safety, check out other resources via the eSafety Commissioner website. They have a range of helpful fact sheets and activities for both parents and kids. You can also view our online safety page for more information.
Whatever mobile plan you decide to go with, giving your child their first phone is an exciting milestone. It is a sign that they are growing up and gaining independence. However, we also know that it is a significant decision that requires family discussion.

Why choose Everyday Mobile for your children's mobile plan?
- Parents can share a “View Only” link to the Everyday Mobile from Woolworths app where their child can see their data usage but can't buy more data.
- Parents can also enable/disable data for their child's service e.g. if they don't want them using it after a certain time of day.
- Parents can gift their child more data if they run out.
- Great network coverage on The Telstra Wholesale Network, so you don't have to worry about getting in contact with your child.

FAQs about kids mobile plans.
Should kids have phones?
It depends on your family and lifestyle. Generally, if your child is under constant adult supervision, having their own phone may not be necessary. A phone is beneficial when your child becomes more independent as you can get in contact at a moment’s notice.
What age should kids get a phone?
There is no right or wrong age. However, a child’s maturity and social awareness are factors to think about when deciding to give them a mobile phone. Waiting until you believe they can responsibly use a phone and navigate the internet safely is a good rule of thumb.
How much screen time should kids have?
The Australian Institute of Family Studies advises that children aged 2-5 should have no more than 1 hour of screen time per day. For kids aged 5-17, the limit should be 2 hours per day.
What type of phone should kids have?
The most common choice is a standard smartphone, such as an iPhone or Android (Samsung Galaxy). These allow for apps and GPS tracking, but we recommend using built-in parental controls (like Google Family Link) to ensure safety.
Alternatively, if you prefer a device strictly restricted to calls and texts to avoid internet distractions, consider a dumbphone. Visit our What's a dumbphone blog for more information.
