Scammers use numerous methods to impersonate legitimate businesses to obtain personal and private information. We want to help you stay safe! Here's what you need to know:
Common scam tactics.
- Impersonation: Scammers falsely claim to be from companies or government agencies you know and trust (like Woolworths or the ATO).
- Urgent requests: They might say there's a problem with your account, you've won a prize, or you owe money.
- Requests for information: They'll ask for your personal details, passwords, or banking information.
- Number spoofing: Scammers make their calls or texts look like they're coming from a legitimate number, even Woolworths.
How to spot a scam.
- Unsolicited contact: Be wary of unexpected calls, texts, or emails, especially if they ask for personal information.
- Suspicious Links or attachments: Don't click on links or open attachments in messages or emails you weren't expecting.
- Urgent or threatening language: Scammers often try to pressure you into acting quickly.
- Requests for payment: Never give out your financial details over the phone or in response to an unexpected message.
- Spoofed numbers: If a call or text seems suspicious, hang up and call the company back using their official number (like the one on their official website).
What to do if you get a scam message or call.
- Don't engage: Don't reply, click links, or give out any information.
- Block the number: If it was a call or text, block the sender.
- Report it: Report it to Scamwatch. Also consider filing a report at https://www.acorn.gov.au. This will assist law enforcement become better resourced to provide assistance to victims.
- Get support: If you've lost money or shared sensitive info, contact IDCare.
- If you believe your number has been spoofed: Please notify us via the number spoofing form, and we will escalate the issue to our Network Partner for investigation.

- Be vigilant: Always be cautious about who you share your information with.

- Use Strong Passwords: Create strong passwords for your online accounts.
- Keep Software Updated: Update your phone and computer software regularly to protect against security vulnerabilities. Use ad blockers, spam protection and other content filters to help block potentially malicious items.
- Everyday Mobile from Woolworths Scam Filter: Download the Everyday Mobile from Woolworths app and ensure the Scam SMS filter is turned on.
- Call Blocking Apps: Consider using call blocking apps or features on your phone. If you have a Samsung phone, follow the steps at samsung.com to enable “Smart Call”. For other Android phones, follow these steps via google support to turn on Caller ID and Spam Protection.
