8 of The Best Holiday Destinations to Visit in Australia

Australia is an awesome place to travel, with some amazing locations to capture your adventures. Whether it’s your annual family Christmas holiday or you just want to explore more of the land down under, there’s plenty of great holiday destinations in Australia. From iconic Australian snorkelling spots to desert getaways, here are 8 of the best holiday destinations in Australia that we think are worth visiting.
1. Uluru, NT
Standing at 348 metres high, Uluru, is a bucket-list Australian travel destination for many people around the world. Uluru sits within the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, a World Heritage listed park.
The drive from the nearest outback town, Alice Spring will take 5 hours. If you’re travelling from further away like Melbourne or Sydney, you might need to set aside at least a few days. This could be the road trip your family will be talking about for years to come.

2. The Great Barrier Reef, QLD
This spot is one of the most iconic places in Australia and perfect for taking the family. Kids will have a great time trying to fund Nemo and Dory - this is equally fun for big kids. While you’re visiting Queensland's natural wonder, you can also take in the surrounding sights. The Daintree Rainforest is less than an hour drive from Port Douglas. At this World Heritage listed site you can take a tour and see native wildlife and ancient plants. You won't be left wanting for the perfect place to snap a photo of your holiday.

3. Mornington Peninsula, VIC
There’s so much to see and do in this beautiful part of the country. Just over an hour’s drive from Melbourne, it’s an easy holiday destination to get to. Once you’re there, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to things to do. There are maze gardens, hot springs, delicious food and wine and beautiful scenic drives to name a few. Plenty of settings for you to capture your holiday memories.

4. The Arkaba Walk, SA
Located in The Flinders Ranges (20 minutes drive from Hawker), the Arkaba Walk lets you experience some of Australia’s natural beauty at its finest. It’s a 4 day walk, so that's something to consider when deciding if this is where you want to spend your next holiday. Once you’re there, you’ll see 1000 year old trees and landscapes that were millions of years in the making. If views of majestic mountains and plant life isn’t enough, there's wildlife in abundance. If you’re lucky, you might spot a Red Kangaroo or even a Wedge Tailed Eagle flying overhead.

5. Rottnest Island, WA
Home to the Quokka, the only mammal native to Rottnest Island. You’ll be very likely to have an opportunity to snap a selfie with these friendly locals. After you’ve finished your photo-op with the native mammals, you can make your way around the island. There are a number of tours you can do. From walking, segway and bus tours, there are things to do with any member of the family.

6. Katoomba, NSW
Located in the Blue Mountains, Katoomba is just over 1.5 hours drive from Sydney. It’s home to the world's steepest railway incline, which you can ride. While visiting, you can take in views of the beautiful rock formations. The Three Sisters is probably the most famous of them all. Aboriginal legend has it that the three sisters from the Katoomba tribe were turned to stone.

7. Canberra, ACT
Canberra is a great place for family getaway, with some pretty picturesque locations. There’s Old Parliament House, where you can visit the office that was used by former Prime Minister’s Gough Whitlam, Malcolm Fraser and Bob Hawke. While you’re there, you can explore one of the many other rooms where you can get a glimpse into the history of Australian politics. For some outdoor fun you can walk or cycle around Lake Burley Griffin. If you feel like some more culture after your bike ride, seek out the National Gallery for the range of fine art on display.

8. Bay of Fires, TAS
Named Bay of Fires in 1773 by English navy captain, Tobias Furneaux, after he saw Aboriginal fires burning along the beaches. The contrasting colours of the blue water and orange coloured boulders at The Bay of Fires are a sight to see. There are about 40 beaches in the Bay of Fires, so plenty of beautiful places to explore. It's just under 4 hours drive from Hobart.

Travel Tips for Australian Holiday Destinations
Respect First Nations culture
Australia has a rich Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander culture. It's crucial to demonstrate respect for their sacred locations and traditions. To gain a deeper appreciation of your holiday destination, you might want to consider booking an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander experience.
Ensure your mobile plan has good coverage
Staying connected during your travels is crucial, especially if you're eager to share your fantastic travel snapshots on Instagram. Everyday Mobile uses part of Telstra's 5G, 4G, and 3G* mobile networks, providing extensive coverage. In fact, the Telstra Wholesale mobile network extends to over 98.8% of Australia's population.
Keep your phone charged
Consider purchasing a portable power bank to maintain your phone's battery charge throughout the day, especially when relying on it for navigation and capturing photos. There's nothing more frustrating than wanting to take a picture only to find your phone has run out of power.
Avoid feeding the wildlife
Australia is home to unique and often dangerous wildlife. If you encounter unfamiliar animals, keep a safe distance, and do not attempt to touch or feed them.
Take safety precautions in and around the water
If you plan to swim or surf, be cautious of rip currents and check for local beach warnings. Always supervise children and swim between the flags at patrolled beaches.
Order your groceries online
If you're heading on an overnight getaway with the family, order your groceries online before you go and then Pick up from your local Woolies at your destination. That way you won't have to pack your food in the car and it will be fresh and ready for you when you arrive.
